Club Coach and Session Profiles

 

Coach in Charge:  Alan Rickard, 6th Dan

 

Training Day/ Time:  Thursdays 6.30 - 8.00pm

                                       (8 - 9pm Selected Teen Squad only)

 

Age:  Juniors aged 8 - 16 years

 

Level:  All levels from Beginner upwards

 

Coach Biography:  Alan started Judo at the age of 17, and in 1972 took over the running of what became Croydon Judo Club.  He gained County Coach status in 1974 and has, over the years, taken on many roles to the benefit of grassroots Judo.  Alan qualified as a National Referee in 1974, in 1982 passed the IJF 'B' grade referring exam and in 1990 travelled to Tokyo and became an IJF 'A' grade referee - the highest award available.  In 2000 he was one of only 17 in the world to referee the Paralympic Judo at the Sydney Olympic Games, and has officiated at 3 full Commonwealth Games Judo events.

 

Session Details:  Very much a believer in sport for all, all juniors who step on to the mat on Thursdays - whether a beginner or experienced player - will find it an encouraging and friendly environment in which to learn/ develop a great sport!  The aim of any session is to teach quality technique and enable all to reach their full potential. 

 

Mat Fees:  Standard - £3 for members, £4 for non-members; beginners may claim a free trial
