New Dojo Update

Here are the latest pics of the dojo which is rapidly being finished.

Look we have a floor to lay the mats on!!  They've been ordered and should be delivered during the first week of December.  We hope to have them laid and the building handed over to us in time for us to hold the Christmas 2005 Championships on the new mat

We've even got changing rooms

and toilets!

These pictures were taken a little while ago and show the new dojo from the outside.  In the far distance is the dojo area roof - the double doors (one of which is open) is the emergency exit from the dojo itself.  The main entrance is via the far doors (the ones with cones in front). The landscaping will be done last.

And this is the inside of the dojo almost showing the apex of the pyramid pitched roof.

This shot shows the view you will get looking back at the office and entrance area when you are on the mat.

Work started on demolishing the old Sir Philip Game Centre, off Morland Avenue, Croydon just a few months ago and these pictures illustrate just how quickly the project is starting to become reality.

We will then have a brand new dojo for the first time in the Club's 50 year history.  The facilities will include proper changing rooms with showers, combined air conditioning and  heating systems and for the first time -  a sprung timber floor which is up to the best international standards.  No more excuses to avoid coming to train.  And no more leaks!

The picture below gives a good idea of the size of the entire centre which we will share with the Sir Philip Game Boys Club

Sir Philip Game Boys Club was constituted in 1947 by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Philip Game, as one of three Boys’ Clubs around London. Croydon is the only club still in existence.  It offers a youth club 4 evenings per week, fitness training 3 evenings per week, computer/homework club, inter club competitions, area team collaborations, borough wide collaboration, work with young refugee men, summer schemes and other holiday provisions. Outdoor activities such as, basket ball, kwik cricket, 5 a side football and netball take place 4 evenings per week.

There is also still a lot work going on behind the scenes.  Working committees have been established to interface with the Sir Philip Game people as we will jointly manage the whole site with them once it is completed.  We need to upgrade our internal systems for membership control and work is starting on preparation of our plans to offer additional beginners courses, schools courses and the marketing and public relations work this will entail.  We fully intend to get back to the level of membership the Club had in the 1970's and 1980's now that we will have the newest dojo in the Southern Area.
