Beginner Course
Monday
(next course starts 17 April)
6:30 to 7:45pm
Periodically run courses open to players aged 8 to 15 (Junior) and 16+(Adult), with little or no previous judo experience (Junior and Adult players taught separately). Each class includes a gentle warm-up, to help develop movement, flexibility and agility. This is followed by Ukemi-waza (landing techniques) tachi-waza (standing techniques) and ne-waza (groundwork techniques).
All players must attend a minimum of 5 out of the 6 classes, and be able to demonstrate their techniques, to progress to a general class.
The course fee (£60 juniors / £80 seniors) includes a new gi (jacket, trousers and belt).
Complete the registration and we’ll be in touch with course details approx. one month prior to the commencement of the next course.

Juniors (Mon) Class
Tuesday & Thursday
6:30 to 7:30pm
Open to players aged 8 to 15, from those who have just completed a beginner course to those with greater experience.
These classes engage and motivate children from their early Judo years, as they progress through the ‘Mon’ grading system; improving movement, flexibility and agility, whilst adding technical skills from the very start.
All students learn the basics of good judo - posture and movement through safe ukemi (landing techniques), throws and hold downs and progress through to combination techniques, countering an opponent's attack, and transitioning from standing to groundwork.

Junior Advanced
Wednesday
6:00 to 7:15pm
Open to 10 – 15yr olds, these classes provide training for those who wish to develop their judo technique, physical strength, agility, co-ordination, and general fitness. This session is for our slightly older junior players (12 – 15yrs), whatever their grade, as they develop their skills for competition, or simply wish to put a bit more focus into their club randori. 10 and 11 year olds are also welcome, but must be 7th Mon (Orange, 1 tab) or above.
Each class starts with a dynamic warm-up, which includes strength, mobility, and cardio training. One tachi-waza and one ne-waza technique will be covered every three weeks, focusing on the adaption to different entries, situations, movements, combinations, and the transition from standing to groundwork. Players are supported to develop their own toki-waza (preferred technique) and associated strategies, as they explore the competitive aspects of Judo, and discuss the rules of the sport. Standing and groundwork randori conclude each session, enabling players to confidently develop their fighting skills.

Adult Class
Tuesday & Thursday

Each class helps develop endurance and ballistic fitness, dynamic strength, agility and stamina. Standing, transition and groundwork techniques are taught and developed through repeated uchikomi and nagekomi (sometimes using crash mats). Tachiwaza and newaza randori are undertaken to develop application of technique, and a stretch-focused cooldown concludes the session.
Thursday
Open to all over 16's, these classes provide training suitable for less experienced through to highly experienced players.
This class has a strong focus on judo fitness and conditioning. The warm-up includes elements designed to increase endurance and ballistic stamina. Uchikomi is undertaken using uke (partner) resistance) and ‘pyramid’ formation (i.e. high to low / low to high reps) exercises. Nagekomi and short-burst randori are undertaken to develop dynamic application of technique, finishing off with a stretch-focused cooldown.
